I'm quite late to the game, but excited to have joined.
This semester marks my eighth, and likely final, semester of graduate school. In 2009 I graduated from UW-Madison with a master's in musicology. My interests within music history tend toward the dramatic (e.g. opera), the gendered--particularly representations/performances of gender--and the exotic. However, I don't want to be a music history professor. I still attend music conferences where I introduce myself as a recovering musicologist. Though I don't want to pursue a PhD in music history, I can't quite kick the academic habit. Luckily libraries and print culture have provided a career path and research outlet that brings my academic interests together.
So now I'm a very happy SLISer, set to graduate in May.
